Do you have an interest in joining the Youth Group at Stearns Farm? Now is the time to start planning for this year! Open enrollment for Homestead Hoofers Youth Group begins now and will continue until April 30, 2012 or until we reach 30 members. Orientation is scheduled for Thurs. Feb. 16, 2012 at 7pm at the cabin at Stearns Homestead.

2011 Year in Review and New Pictures!

A lot happened during 2011 at Stearns Homestead. We obtained a new greenhouse thanks to the generosity of funds provided by the Parma Hospital Foundation. In 2012, we will be starting seeds for our annual plant sale and also starting our heirloom veggies for the youth group to learn about historical plants and growing
from seed to table. We will sell the vegetables at the Farmer’s Market!

We would like to thank Jim Georgeson, Dana Valensky, Joe Porach and Denny Hrilcka for all their help in assembling the greenhouse. Here are photos of their progress Green House Photos

The Youth Club had a wonderful trip to Broadview Multi Care Center where they had the opportunity to show off their animals. Everyone had a great time- one resident even tried to take one of the ducks!!! Broadview Multi Care Center Visit

Our Christmas at the Farm Event turned out well, with nice weather. Santa and Mrs. Claus were their to greet children, and guests could tour the Horse Barn! One youngster slept through everything but sure clutched his candy cane tight while he dreamed of Christmas. Christmas on the Farm 2011

Adopt an Animal

Looking for a unique gift for an animal lover? Consider the adopt an animal program at Stearns Farm. You’ll be helping out a great cause. We rely on the genorsity of donors and our adoptive parents who support our animals to keep the farm running. There are many events throughout the year where you can visit the animals, along with all Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer. Plus, we have an additional Parents’ Day for all our adoptive parents each year. Adopted Parents receive a letter of thanks, a certificate of adoption and a 4X6 photo of their adopted animal. The adoption is for one calendar year. In addtion on Parents Day the Adopted parents are encouraged to interact with their adoptee and also visit regularly during open hours. Thank you for considering supporting this worthwhile cause! The animals truly appreciate your genorsity!

We would like to thank everyone who came out to the farm this past weekend for Christmas on the Farm. Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all the animals really enjoyed seeing everybody! We are very thankful for everyone who visited us during the 2011 season. Your support helps us to continue the operation of Stearns Homestead. The youth group, the Homestead Hoofers would like to thank everyone that took the time to view their video on youtube.com. We would also like to thank Dana Valensky for putting it together for us. Thanks to all of you who viewed the video we were announced as the winners of the My Ohio Agriculture Video contest which is sponsored by the Ohio Farm Bureau, we won the People’s Choice Award, the video got viewed the most times during the contest. It was viewed 1,447 times. We will be receiving a $500 gift card. If you haven’t seen it yet you can go to youtube.com and and search for stearns homestead ag clip. Thanks again.

Animal in the Spotlight – Bitty!

Next time you are at the farm, please come say hello to our newest member of Stearns Homestead, Bitty! Bitty is a 12 year old Jennie (girl donkey), who is brown with white around her eyes and big ears! She is very friendly and is making friends with little Stormy, our miniature horse at Stearns. Bitty is 30 inches tall. Her favorite thing to eat is apples!

Bitty was donated to us by someone who is moving from the area and could not take her with them. The person who donated her has had her since birth. She will be a nice addtion to the homestead!
